The Primitive Kitchen Grubby candles from Country Keepsakes will keep your kitchen scented with the delicious scents of so many wonderful primitive fragrances. We will start by bringing primitive colors into our kitchen. Apple reds, yellows, greens and blues are a few colors we can work with to make our kitchen fit in with the tone of yesteryear. Whatever your favorite primitive color is, use it! A Love of Coffee-Flavored Gourmet Coffee, Cappuccino, Cocoas, Gourmet Teas, Baking Mixes and more!
Make canisters out of old pickle jars and tie coordinating strips of fabric around the necks. Paint the lids to match your color scheme and then take a nail and scratch off some of the paint to make it look old.
Hang a dish towel over the handle on your stove and then tie a piece of jute or raffia around it just below the handle to hold in place. Simple!
If you buy white or off white hand towels you can stamp or stencil your theme right on them! There are a variety of stamps and stencils out there in a primitive theme so check your local craft stores. Your stove can also make a primitive statement as well. Place a large cast iron kettle on one of the back burners to bring your kitchen back in time. You can find old kettles at antique shops, estate sales, thrift shops and sometimes even at yard sales. I also like to use a tart burner on my stove and burn tarts that have the smell of home baked goodies!
Rag rugs are great on the floor as well as braided rugs. These rugs, however, don't like to stay in place, so be sure to use rug tape on the backs of these! Another great idea is to hang an old feed scale from the ceiling in the corner of the room. My kitchen is an apple theme, so I fill mine with wooden apples I got at a thrift store. You can really use your imagination with this. How about rolling your extra dish towels and then tying all together with a piece of twine. Place some old kitchen utensils, such as an egg beater, rolling pin, or old kitchen forks and spoons tied with a piece of homespun fabric. Take a candle lamp and add your own shade. Stamp or stencil your own theme on it for a custom look! Whatever your theme is you can find a stamp or stencil for it out there. Tie a piece of homespun fabric you used for your curtains around the base of the lamp. Tying pieces of homespun around different items in your kitchen really speaks "primitive". Sometimes you can buy some really old fabric at estate and yard sales. Also look at "barn sales". I've found some really old quilts at these. I also chose to remove the two doors below my kitchen sink and hang a curtain that matches my window curtain. All you need is one of those expandable curtain rods and "voila"! just remember----
