Primitive Living Room Holiday Tips

Well here it is upon us again!  The wonderful holiday season!

Here are a few primitive decorating ideas to make your living room fit right in with an "old-fashioned" holiday.

This is the same display I had for my living room for the Fall months, but now have decorated it for the holiday season!  The shutters have spring rods so all you need to do is change the fabric to a cute holiday theme.  I chose a dark green background with tiny santas on it.

Place some batting or fiberfill around your holiday prims to give the illusion of snow.  I hung a sign over the top which just happened to be "Santa" themed as well and matched the colors in my shutters perfectly.

The shutters were originally white but I spray painted them flat black.

Here is a pic of my finished display for a nice holiday touch!

In place of tea lights, use clear glass votive cups and try mixing red, green, and white votives.  Whatever combination of colors you choose, try to keep with the theme of the holidays.

Another cute idea is to not use candles at all in your votive cups,  but pieces of cinnamon sticks tied together with raffia.

Try filling your votive cups with small wrapped peppermint candies (you know the kind they sell around Christmas) or small  candycanes.

Take some clear votive glasses and fill with red and green buttons.  I tied a strip of checked fabric around the bottom and placed 3 star buttons in a row.

Always remember to take off buttons before disposing of any old clothes!  I have a huge jar with old buttons that I  reuse for lots of primitive craft projects.

I just love changing my pictures for the seasons.  To make this more economical, make a seasonal puzzle and then place it in a frame used for a picture you already have.

Just make sure you use puzzle glue to hold the puzzle together.  No need for glass over the puzzle.  Here is a puzzle I did for the holidays.  It fit perfectly into a frame I already had.  I just popped out the old picture and put in my new creation for the holidays!
